"Big" Jim McLaughlin
“Big” Jim as he is affectionately known has been an integral part of the Canadian sportfishing scene for over 30 years and shows no signs of slowing down. Having first gained notoriety as a tournament angler, “Big” Jim was vaulted into the sport fishing spotlight with two CFT Canadian Classics – Canada’s premier tournament title along with a slew of tournament victories numbering 29 to his credit. Following his tournament success, “Big” Jim formed what has become Canada’s largest FREE fishing publication – Just Fishing. This successful publication is presently entering its 22nd year of bringing much needed angling information to Canadian and American anglers alike.
The 2009 Spring Fishing & Boat Show saw “Big” Jim was awarded the Rick Amsbury Hall of Fame Award presented by the Canadian Sportfishing Hall of Fame for going above and beyond the expectations of the angling community. Then in 2010 “Big” Jim was inducted into Canadian Sportfishing Hall of Fame in the ANGLER division which is secretly his favourite… nothing beats recognition from your peers.
Travelling well over 100 days a year, when “Big” Jim is not working on Just Fishing or teaching a kid to cast he finds time for the family including his beautiful wife of 30+ years Tammy, their three children – Michael, Jennifer & Lindsey, granddaughters – Skye, Emerald, Gracelyn, Charlotte, Ariella, grandsons Ronin and Axel plus Buddy and Bella the very special Springer Spaniels.
Len was born and raised the small village of Ferguson’s Falls, Ontario and as a writer, photographer, and a passionate sportsman, has dedicated most of his life in promoting his hunting heritage and inspiring people to appreciate the beauty that is all around them. During that time, he continued his education and received his Bachelor of Environmental Studies through Waterloo University. He presently sits on the Board of Directors for the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters as well as the Safari Club International holding many key positions both provincially and internationally.
Len will be explaining some of the advantages of hunting outside your own back yard. Hunting is his passion and will clarify some of the myths involved with traveling to hunt and how easy and cheap it can be.
